Yes! Any application that can be configured to use an HTTP proxy is fine. We use curl for many of our automated tests, including generating the live status table on the left.
Flash tends to ignore HTTP Proxy settings, which can make testing a pain. We offer VPN services on many of our servers, through which all your traffic is routed, including flash.

Yes! Your browser sends a CONNECT request to the proxy, which passes the secure connection on the the destination server. Your encrypted data is not visible to our servers.
